Rebuilding my carb

Today I rebuilt the 1 barrel Holley carburetor for my 1961 Ford Falcon.

I ordered the rebuild kit from http://www.carburetorfactory.com for about $35. Made in USA.

This was my first carb rebuild and I was pretty excited.

My dad was trying to remind me that it came with instructions, even though he proclaimed, "We don't need no stinkin' directions!"

About to measure the float

Putting it back together after cleaning everything out.

My dad/instructor showing me how to put it all back on.

Clean and shiny, little baby carburetor!

When we were finished I said, "Thanks dad!" and drove away into the sunset. Then I got onto the freeway, and before I even merged my accelerator started to do nothing. "I'm not going faster...like I'm supposed to..." I thought to myself. "I should pull over..." and with that I slowly rolled onto the shoulder and died. I called my dad, he came to my rescue, we pulled off the air filter and discovered the choke pull had come off and was all the way open. We hooked it up, drove to the mini mart, got some redbulls and headed back to the garage. Once we arrived, we fixed the choke, only to find a little leak. We pondered that for about 45 minutes...did we forget a gasket? A washer? We started to unscrew some stuff and found a screw that we have placed a copper washer onto when the original was rubber. We put the original back on and bam! Fixed. My dad pointed out that the littlest things can screw stuff up, that you wouldn't even consider or imagine. Everything looked good after that, and again I drove away, this time into the night instead.

We shall see what happens, and hopefully someday the smell of gasoline will fade away.

Swap meet finds

Exhaust pipes I got at the Pomona Swap Meet for $10, so my Ford Ranchero can be loud and obnoxious...I mean, cool and tough. Just finished painting them.

I also bought a seat belt for the Ford Falcon so my mom doesn't lose sleep at night.

Tune up

Tuned up the Falcon! New spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor, points, condenser, fuel filter, air filter, and oil change.

My new baby. I figured I needed something to drive while I work on my 1971 Ford Ranchero.
